Ice field

We hiked 5 hours through the ice field and back today . There were 9 of us all together. We went over crevaces on ladders pretty cool experience. I felt very safe with this years route the ice doctors selected this year as I will be traveling over it a few more times . Thanks everyone following the blog for the support and encouragement- greatly appreciated especially your comments Andrew my friend- truly amazing .

A tribute to Joe Lynch

I would like to use today’s blog to honor my late brothern law Joe Lynch who passed away recently of pneumonia at the age of 46 years . In the enclosed photo I am toasting Joes  short life with an Everest Beer at 17 ,500 ft . Here’s to you pal . To his wife Sandra and children Dylan and Ashley I hope to make it to the summit to say goodbye again for you from the closest place on earth to heaven . Here’s to you Joe Dog 🙏. Namaste

Puja ceremony

We had our puja ceremony where a young monk performed the duties of blessing our climbing gear and an Everest beer which we drank at the end . Today was wash my clothes day and relax . Tomorrow we should check out my gear and practice on the lower ice field . These are the 2 Sherpa guides taking me to the top of Everest .

Night one at EBC

Night one was dark and quite around camp until some dogs started to bark at 5 or so in the morning. Where did they come from ? I did a lot of tossing and turning amongst my 2 down bags and a couple of down jackets . I had to keep a hat on to prevent any headache s during the night . I dosed in and out of sleep trying to keep weird dreams at bay . Things are a little different at 17,500 ft , gasping for air all of a sudden and then going back to your somewhat normal breathing pattern . It should get better day by day as my body gets use to this thin air and cool weather . I am waiting for breakfast, its almost 8 am that’s when the sun usually hits the tent and says get up . I’ve been up since before 7 , I get restless . I did my business nobody around all to myself . I just had a Nescafé 3in 1 and waiting for breakfast even though I am not very hungry. I would like to thank Shelly my wife for looking after our 3 great kids and dog while I am gone . Thanks ShelI . ☀️

Living at Everest Base Camp

Living at EBC is a lot better than staying at the – 4 star hotels I stayed at getting to BC . We each have our own TNF VE 25 tent which is usually too hot to stay in late morning and early afternoon because of the sun beating on it . So we hang out in the very spacious mess tent with endless supplies of hot drinks. Three meals are served to us daily on silver platers . Things are going to have to change when I get home .LOL 😀. We have good internet this year however it is expensive. Just trying to take care of my body and acclimatize. We should be going on the ice field in a couple of days. It looks safer than last year , but you never know🙏. Namaste . If all goes well we will have to travel the ice field 3 x going to Camp 1 , 2 & 3 to gain more acclimatizing before the summit push . The ice doctors are still assessing the route . There should be other climbers going up the ice field the day after tomorrow.
